Members and guests present were: Becky Wolk, Randy Hackbarth, Julie Hahn, Andy Assereto, Cordell Van Rees, Pat Shockey, Terri Riley, Sandy Stovall, Carrie Johnen and George Glick. Guests were Ken and Cyndi Martin, Wendy MacGregor.

Treasurer's Report: Provided by Cheryl Kaiser. Removed for online publication. Cheryl would like a proposed budget at the February Meeting.

Old Business

El Dorado Farm Bureau asked Becky if Backcountry wanted to show the 3rd graders how to pack. Becky said yes. The Farm Bureau hasn't gotten back to Becky to confirm the date.

Cordell Van Rees said he was going to attend a work shop in Redding concerning communication with the forest service.

Becky talked about public lands regarding El Dorado trail, an old railroad bed which has not been used since 1985. The horse trail begins at Missouri Flat Road and goes to Forney Road. The bridge is nice and passable. Contact Becky for more info as to where you can park your rigs if you want to ride the trail.

Dan asked for volunteer hours and would like suggestions for Education Clinics. Some of his suggestions were knot tying, and packing to make a pack with an even load. Rides are the same as published in the last newsletter. If you plan on going make sure you let the person in charge of the ride know you are coming.

New Business

Rendezvous will be held at the Merced County Fair Grounds. Raffle tickets were handed out to those who wanted them. The drawing this year is a 3-day, 2-night pack trip for two by Red's Meadows and, of course, the Round Pen. Matt Sheridan and Jerry Tindell are going to be clinicians.

Project R.I.D.E. Trail Ride is April 17. Ride and Dinner: $100. Ride only: $75. Dinner only: $35. Registration begins at 7:30 am at the Barton Ranch, 3830 Scott Road, Sloughhouse. www.projectride.org for info.

Meeting adjourned.

Minutes of the Board Meeting, February 22, 2010

Board Meeting was called to order by President Becky Wolk at 6:45 pm at Colima d' Oro in Plymouth.

The bylaws were read and changes in Article 3 were discussed and modified as follows: Sections 1 and 2 have been switched; Section 3 would read: The Board of Directors shall be elected at the November election; Section 4 would read: The majority of the Board of Directors in attendance at any meeting shall constitute a quorum; Section 5 which states that the past president would serve on the board for one year will be deleted. The changes will be voted on at the next meeting -- which will be the 29th of March at the Colima d'Oro, in Plymouth.

We also discussed the budget and we are (or will be) in the red, by $127.00. Money making ideas are being thought about.

Board meeting adjourned.

Pat Shockey, Secretary

Minutes of the General Meeting, February 22, 2010

Called to order by Becky Wolk at 7:10 pm. The attendance sheet was passed around; 14 members and 2 guests were present. Minutes were approved from last meeting.

Don Hess reported that the Sacramento Conservancy will be holding a ride the last weekend in February.

Treasurer's Report: Cheryl said we had a bank balance of $3,124.00

Old Business:

BCHC was invited by the Farm Bureau to help at their Fun Day, or Education Day, due to their funding being cut.

Rendezvous: Becky asked if we (the club) would like to donate a horse shoe bench again this year. Billy had some all ready made up. Normal price was $145.00 but for the club, he would give it to us for a $100.00. A motion was made by Bob Gilmore to get the bench, seconded by Ron Akers that we purchase the bench. Don said he would pick it up and take it to Rendezvous.

Table Decorations: Terri, Pat and Sandy will not be going, so Terri asked for volunteers to decorate. Carrie Johnen, Carolyn Gilmore, and Shelia Bond will decorate for us.

Becky asked if the floor wanted to choose a person to receive the Top Hand Award. Nominees were : Melba Leal, Al Kaiser, Dan Marus, and Jerry Ledbetter. Becky was given the honor of choosing. Carrie is going to set up a gentle use camp at Rendezvous.

On March 18, Fred Grant will be coordinating a process with the Federal Agencies. Fee will be $10. March 19, Public Lands will start at 9:00 am and the State Board Meeting at 1:00 pm.

Budget cuts: Expo 11-13 of June. Is there a way to reduce the size of meals to the public, or cut it completely?

ACTHA Competitive Trail Challenges

From Cheryl Kaiser

The American Competitive Trail Horse Association (ACTHA) promotes casual trail horse competition nationwide. Up to 50% of the proceeds from these Competitive Trail Challenges (CTC) rides are donated to horse charities. Last year they gave over $100,000 to horse rescues and charities. Great prizes for participants, too.

The rides are great opportunities to get your horse in condition and to practice going through obstacles. Two of these challenges have been in California this spring:

3/27/10 - Turkey Hill Campgrounds at Comanche Lake. Ride the Coast-to-Crest Trail. This ride benefits the San Joaquin Valley Rangers Juniors, who will provide food and entertainment. Entries limited to first 100. Entrants must register online to participate. Call Beverly Sanchez 209-481-8042 or lawsonproducts@clearwire.net.

4/3/10 - Woodward Reservoir, Oakdale. For questions, contact: Kim O’Hagan kimmooe@aol.com 209-499-2832 or Julie Dorrepaal iarscl@sbcglobal.net 209-604-3032. This ride benefits the BCHC Mid-Valley Unit. Register online only at www.actha.us. There you will find detailed ride information for this and other rides - double click on Backcountry Horsemen - Mid Valley CTC.
